Our oldest daughter Aaliyah was five years old when she discovered the world of reborn baby’s. Knowing how expensive and vulnerable these beautiful reborn baby’s are, I told her she had to save up for quite a while. Faithfully she started to save her chores-and-good-report-cards-money in her piggy bank. About 1,5 years later she asked me if she might have saved enough. Together we searched online for a baby and with the arrival of Thomas Asleep, my interest was also awakened.
After painting a few reborn baby’s myself, I bought a box of polymer clay. It took me months of sculpting to come up with something that looked a little more like a baby. Although everything was new and difficult, I enjoyed getting more and more detail in my clay and making small progresses. After weeks and weeks of clay sculpting, but also clay frustration I had my first full body clay sculpt finished; Baby Ezra. Little did I know; this was just the start. I learned about molding my sculpt, mixing the chemicals, purchasing and using the vacuum chamber and finally pouring my very first silicone baby. After the ‘birth’ of my very first silicone baby Ezra, there were even more new skills to learn; preparing the cast, painting and matting my baby and the final step: micro rooting the hairs one by one to create a lifelike newborn baby.
I truly fell in love with every step of this art and hope to be able to continue my hobby for many more years.
